In Memorium

The year 2009 ended on a very sad note for the staff and patients of Mansarovar Eye Hospital. The head of the institution, Dr. Suresh Hansraj left for his heavenly abode on 24th December due to the complications of cancer. In his departing the hospital and his innumerable patients have suffered an irreparable loss. The void created by his absence cannot be easily filled. There can be no replacement of his experience and knowledge.

He was not only the head of the institution, but was responsible through his sheer hard work, un-tiring efforts and 'never say die' attitude for bringing it up to its present level.

He had many qualities. He was a perfectionist in everything he did. He believed in the best and never made any compromise with quality. This resulted in the development of a similar attitude among his staff and benefitted the patients. He was very concerned and sincere with his patients, always listening to their problems and giving them proper advice, but never giving them false hopes when none existed and not hesitating to refer them to other centeres for second opinions for the patient's best interest and satisfaction. This instilled confidence in his patients. He did lot of charitable work for the poor and under-priveleged in the form of free eye operations. For this he started a charitable eye unit called the Mansarovar Eye Foundation which is still involved in doing hundreds of free cataract operations every year.

He was the pioneer of contact lenses in India. He was the first eye doctor in North India to get training and know-how for the manufacture and fitting of contact lenses in 1970. He was an excellent surgeon and thousands of cataract, glaucoma and corneal patients had their sight restored after being operated by him. He was also a master 'artificial eye' maker - an art he learnt in England. Many patients are leading normal lives because their facial cosmesis was restored by life-like artificial eyes painstakingly made and fitted by him. He was a good teacher and always liked to share his knowledge with others. He even taught the art of artificial eye making to other interested eye doctors like Dr. Upsham Goel, spending long hours after the day's work doing so.

He was a father figure for the staff. They could always count on him for help in times of need.

In his life he fought and won many a battle against in-justice, but inspite of his determination and fighting spirit he could not overcome the final in-justice done to him by God and had to submit to His will.

Mansarovar Family will forever be inspired by his dedication, determination and hard work and re-dedicates itself to live upto his ideals for the benefit of all those patients who enter our portals seeking treatment for their eyes. May his soul rest in heaven in eternal peace.
